If there is one thing I cannot stand in this life it is 'hypocrisy'.
Having read this week's Promoter story on the Food Bank about their self-made problems and their 11th hour 'pie in the sky' solutions, along with their willingness to obviously be used as a 'political tool' by totally unscrupulous individuals, sickens me to no end.
It just blows me away to see people in positions of power (the gang of three) who have done absolutely nothing over several months now to help the Food Bank (except use them for their own self-serving purposes, as a tool to save the Centre) portrayed, by an obviously naive reporter, as the great defenders and supporters of the poor and less fortunate in our society (while at the same time, the other members on council are constantly portrayed as the four horsemen of the apocalypse). This is about as ludicrous as you can get!
What have these individuals in the story (on the gang of three side) ever done for the poor in our society? We have no homeless shelter here in the Pass, no youth shelter, no family violence shelter or safe houses, no senior Assisted Living units and no affordable housing either. In addition, we have a Food Bank that appears to not be able to look after themselves, never mind others. What has this multi-term mayor and his want-to-be, ever done? Except give the poor 'empty rhetoric'. For years now, their solution has been to farm them out i.e. 'encourage' these people to move out of the community.
Our media obviously does not do its homework. But instead, are nothing more than tools themselves, being used to paint a picture that most of us know is not there. But paint they must.
They are all hypocrites!
Society, my dear, is like salt water, good to swim in but hard to swallow.

I agree John. Why doesn't the food bank share the basement of the Elks Hall with the Cadets? There are only 11 cadets and the food bank is closed at night. The Food Bank hours of operation are not extensive. They had lots of notice of the center closing...did they think it wasn't going to happpen? Maybe they were assured by our Mayor and his 2 cohorts that it wouldn't. This mayor and his 2 shadows need to go!!!
Well said John. What about the Manager of the Centre and the President of the society? Shouldn`t they be held accountable for telling the tenants not to worry.

Good points all around.

They had a responsibility for sure, but obviously failed at this too. Responsibility and 'accountability' is something in short supply both at the Centre, and with the gang of three.
John
You made many valid points. It really is amazing how the media reports issues here. For the longest time I read about the 4-3 then when I sent a letter to the editior giving the actual number of 95% of motions being passed by something other than that 4-3. It suddenly became 4-3 on contenious issues. How many times as the media asked the question why the 4 vote the same way on this issue. But never once do I hear the question asked why does the 3 always vote the same way (You are the first to focus on this). Despite the fact that I have asked that question in front of the media several times. Do you really think certain parts of the media would be focused on this issue if the 4 votes was going the other way?
Media: Notes on Media
I just checked on the internet...not sure how up to date it is. The food bank is only open 7 hours a week!!!!
Dean,
Do you really think certain parts of the media would be focused on this issue if the 4 votes was going the other way?
No, they would not! They have clearly shown over the years that whatever side the mayor is on, that is the side they are on (even now, when the mayor is on the minority side).
That is why mediums such as blogging are so important and powerful at the same time. Because they give people the means and opportunity to tell others 'the other side of the story'. And that is why main stream media is going the way of the dinosaur. People are tired of being fed BS! They want the Truth!!
Instead, what we get today is business selling advertising and pushing an agenda that is establishment driven. In other words, they take your money and feed you BS. Who needs that! Who wants that!!
But thank god the times are changing... people are becoming more ‘aware’ of how controlled and manipulated we have allowed ourselves to become. Like Frank Herbert said, “Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken!”
I feel we as a community are becoming more aware and experiencing our own ‘Awaking’. We are no longer sleep walking through life, but instead have more concernment and understanding of our surroundings, and how we are being managed. And we won’t allow ourselves to be fooled by ‘hack media’ anymore.
Just a correction on the Food Bank hours.
Wednesday 6pm to 7:45pm
Thursday 11am to 1:45pm
For a total of 4.5 hours.
Local resident told me that it was not that many years ago that the Food Bank was an inter denominational organiztion looked after by the various churchs.
Does anybody know anything about that?
The food bank should change their signs!! 4.5 hours a week is not exactly a booming business is it? I agree it is needed but how much space do they really need?
I think that the food bank needs a certain amount of space regardless of how many hours it's open a week. I believe it's run by volunteers, which can be hard to get and keep. So trying to find people to staff it can be problematic.
Say and do what ever you want, nothing changes here until the Crowsnest Pass straps on a set of balls and gets rid of this whole "we will rely on our history" bullshit that Fred Bradley keeps wasting tax dollars from the province on.
With his support from our local Economics development board (Shar Lazzorotto) and councilman Gary Taje supporting his actions, Fred is going to be keeping this area beat down to satisfy his own desire to leave a legacy of history that keeps the area directed toward the past instead of the future.
When Fred was an MLA, he was responsible for most of our historic buildings coming down to begin with, and now look at him go!
By all accounts, nothing changes here for a minimum of 10 years, hopefully in that time, perhaps someone like the fellows that have moved here and have been pursueing new ventures like all the sporting events will prevail. But until then, what you see is what you get.
Oh, and one last note, David MacIntire should GROW UP!!!
If I was a billionaire like the one he is praying for, I personally would hunt him down and lay a lickin' on him!
Stop being an asshole and go and do something about the troubles that you are whinning about.
And if you do try and fix the place, do it with a little dignity instead of "Panhandling the government like the rest of these beggers that don't make a move unless some funding is available! It's a goddamn embarassment!
