In submitting a letter to the editor this week (my first, since before the last election), I spoke with editor Joni MacFarlane of the Promoter, in part, about her 'excellent' coverage of the recently released Corporate Review. Was surprised to hear from her that she received no feedback with respect to her articles?
Then I thought about the fact Dean's blog and mine have received little to nothing in that area as well, despite one commentator on my blog specifically asking mayor, council, cao, admin, etc, to talk to us.
What does this tell us... more apathy? People throwing up their hands saying "What's the use?" "Who cares?" "Nothing is going to change."
In my opinion, this is the attitude that got us into this mess in the first place. It won't do! It solves nothing. In fact, it ensures more of the same 'good government'.
A gal I knew on council a few years back who had bigger balls than most of the men at the time, once said, after losing an election... "F**k them, they deserve what they get."
Truer words were never spoken, if we as a community continue to bury our heads in the sand by trying to turn a blind eye to our problems. It should be self-evident by now that the mayor and the conservative gang (Community Futures, Chamber of Commerce, Ad Hoc Committee, etc.) have not run things for our best interest, but for theirs.
Are you going to continue letting them run your community into the ground, or are you going to do something about it? Its your call, be a lemming or be a lion.
If you think of yourselves as helpless and ineffectual, it is certain that you will create a despotic government to be your master. The wise despot, therefore, maintains among his subjects a popular sense that they are helpless and ineffectual.

Do you not believe we are better off with her not on council? The lady with the big balls stood up for what she believed in, but she did not use her powers to fight for what the majority wanted.

I posted your comment because I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and therefore you should be heard, but the intent of this post is 'not' about the lady, or the past, it is about our future. It is about getting a discussion going on how best we can save our community.
If you haven't noticed nobody around this shit hole cares about anything unless it has something to do with getting looserpissed at one of the meany shit hole bars and driving home.
Do you think the new bylaw officer will clean up the mayor's yard??/?
I think making the mayor clean up his yard is a great first step.
Boy, everyone wants to get off topic with this post? OK, you guys win...
I think the mayor's yard will certainly be a 'bellwether' test of the independence and authority of the Bylaw Officer’s position, knowing as we do that in the past the Bylaw Officer has been under the thumb of the CAO, and the CAO is under the thumb of the mayor (as per the recent corporate review). Time will tell if it’s going to be more of the same old same old, or not? We’ll all be watching, that’s for sure.

lol! You make me laugh! :-) You got some of the people here down pat, but not everybody. Many live quiet life’s, minus the bar scenes.
I believe people are aware of the issues and therefore no matter what life they live, when the time is right, they'll act responsibly by supporting and voting for the change we need. In the meantime, people got lives to lead, and in their minds, probably more pressing issues to deal with.

Yes, and yes, I agree with everything you say.
Saving any community is all about jobs.People live where they work. There are plenty of people who would love to get out of the cities and move to the CNP but can not find a job in there field. Its time to go after the large companies to have sub offices here that they may offer to there employees an option of living here.An incentive to stay with the company. After all Doctors flock here, why not lawyers, engineers, accountants and the whole profesional field.Just an idea, have no idea how to follow through, maybe that adhoc comittee.Thoughts anyone?

To follow up on your thought, I think the Pass needs to hire a marketing coordinator to sell itself, especially to Calgary firms. That would be a first step... but the lack of 'conversation' here from 'locals' suggests we are not even ready for that one. So sad, to bad!
Thanks for your comment but unfortunately it appears to have fallen on deaf ears. This community won't change until this mayor and council changes, I guess?
Unfortunately for you, the problem starts right at the top in Edmonton. All the time, money and energy that I spent designing and trying to convince the Ab. gov on all levels of what could make my industry work in the province was responded to with a: "Just sit down and be quiet, we've got control of the the bus" mentality. I more or less did'nt waste my time with the local Feds as the quote I was given from her was: "We don't want changes around here, we like things just the way they are". In moving to a more diversified area (BC), I was suprised to find out that practically everything that I thought that I had invented was already in practice here. Long story short, I totally dig the idea that someone "beat me to the punch" on what I thought were my "brainwaves" because it gives me a chance to move forward instead of stagnating waiting for someone to listen. I'm not saying that I moved to heaven, however it is important to remember that all the problems that the CNP is going through have been solved before somewhere else, the trick is to find out how to do it from someone who has been there before instead of fighting the "many headed monster" you have going on there by yourselves.
Everything has a solution. D. Stoddart

If people want to see real change in this community, the first place that needs a complete overhaul is at Community Futures. These people have held us back for far to long with their 'retrograde' thinking and self-serving ways!
I agree, where there is a will there is a way.
Good to hear from you again Dan, and glad to hear your future looks brighter than it was here. One day, when enough people wake up here, ours will too! Take care!!
You nailed it.
