Crowsnest Pass election 'predictions' for 2010

This week's Pass Herald newspaper lays out the future for the Pass, as the 'old school' would have it. In essence, put together a field of candidates to run for council in this year's municipal election, who if successful, will revert things back (think CLC) to the old way of doing things while at the same time, and most importantly, maintaining the current status quo. Stagnation and decline is their 'mantra'.

The 'new school', lead by the likes of Dean and his cohorts on the Adhoc Committee (made up of members from the Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures (the latter swings both ways, and in all probability will be the King makers)) who I'm sure will have some new 'vision' and 'plan' just before the election that only they can implement (and in so doing save our community), with their own field of candidates, of course. Unfettered capitalism and consumerism is their 'mantra'.

So there you have it. Two groups fighting over the turkey come this October. Neither trusted by the other, and both determined to win... no matter the cost... to the community. Winner takes all! We take no prisoners!!

It should make for an amusing and interesting time over the next few months. But sadly, will probably have an end result of only dividing this community further... rather than bringing us together.

Greed is the gas and fear the brake. As a result, there’s almost always a wreck somewhere.

speaking of the future of the community and the local politicians...did anyone know that the C.P. Mayor was at a River Run investors meeting in Calgary this past weekend, attended by Bill Bradley and his lawyer.
Wondering if the local population is kept in the loop at all.

What was the result of the meeting? The mayor sure is not going to tell us.

not sure ...
i didn't attend, but it sure seems that your mayor and the "saviour of the crowsnest pass" Bill Bradley are in cahoots...The mayor still thinks river run is a go after 4 years of promises and no action..
is it dangerous that the leader of your community is mixed up with someone who many consider a fraudster, allegedly? what's going on?

Sounds like the mayor is trying to look after his investments albeit by his usual crafty methods of projecting himself as being more concerned about other peoples' health and well-being, than his own. What is a doctor for, hey? This community has never had a more altruistic mayor, don't you think?

For those that know, you know he never gave a rats ass about the less than 200 people living in Sentinel and their water supply prior to Bridgecreek, nor prior to Bridgecreek did the people living there, being sufficiently satisfied, ever ask for anything more than what they already have. Now I’m sure, as a last resort, knowing how this mayor loves to spend ‘our’ money on ‘infrastructure’ with his good buddy Jeff Drain, and provided he gets in again as mayor, he will be spending millions of taxpayer dollars on a water/sewer pipeline (that will of course increase property values/opportunities for those ‘fortunate property owners’ along the route of this pipeline), as he put it once, "to protect the people of Sentinel from having to drink their own effluent" (sic). What a caring and compassionate man with not an ounce of self serving interest or greed.

With his track record is it any wonder we are in the financial mess we find ourselves, with both he and his cohorts on council unable to answer a simple question that has been put to them on numerous occasions, and that is: “where has all the money gone?” Could it have gone to his rich and powerful local conservative friends of the government? Much like what has already been spent with the likes of the Bridgecreek and River Run developers, and what is yet to be spent in the future in order to facilitate and expedite these white elephants designed to profit the few at the expense of the many?

No, I think you are giving credit where it is not due. To do half of the things that you have mentioned would require a multi leveled mind and it is not found in your leaders chair.

I am simply astounded that there may be a single citizen in the Crowsnest Pass, aside from the developers and politicians, that believe one word being uttered by BC. How many years will the townsfolk/investors give credence to the delusional dreams of BC? I have just read the court report on the Shire Saga. Substitute BC for Shire and you won't even have to rewrite the findings. Take good care.
