Where ignorance is bliss, you'll usually find a newspaper editor

They say, 'what you don't know won't hurt you'. Sometimes people are more comfortable if they don't know something. This is usually the result of or condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. So if this is the case why would anybody in a position of influence (such as an editor for a local newspaper in his weekly editorial) go around advertising how unaware he really is?

Unless it is done by design, by way of malice, in order to further a political objective i.e. maintaining the status quo. Then again, 'one should never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity'.

Case in point:

No one is starving in Canada, no one is being killed on a daily basis in Canada, no one is in constant danger of being blown up by bombs falling out of the sky in Canada, no one is arrested and put in jail jail for expressing their political opinions in Canada, no one is constantly parading and dying in the name of freedom in Canada, no one is screaming for war and terrorist acts against other nations and people in Canada.

The truth is:

  • 1 in 6 children go to bed hungry in Canada every night. While more than 3.5 million people, including 1 in 6 children, still live in poverty
  • Better than 1 in 8 chance of being killed by the RCMP than by a terrorist
  • Shut off the taps to the U.S. and you'll soon see what other countries have already found out the hard way about bombs falling from the sky with respect to their B-52 diplomacy
  • 900 arrests linked to the G20 summit in Toronto. Largest mass arrests in Canadian history
  • Parading? Yes, think 'Occupy Movements' in Canada. Dying? Not yet!
  • HarperCONS recent opportunistic imperialistic 'terrorist' war of aggression on Libya and constant heated rhetoric against Iran on Israel's behalf
I guess, 'you can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public', is a motto some yellow jouralists live by.

When the media refuses to inform and the public no longer questions, that truly is the beginning of the end of democracy.

If you really want to know what is going on in the world, stop reading the newspapers and watching TV. They are nothing more than corporate stooges doing the bidding of their masters, the 1%ers.
Read, talk to your neighbours, ask them if life is getting better or easier for them? Educate yourself about your real world. Empower yourself!

Real power is not in momemntary desires, but in complete calmness.

Complete outer calmness is impossible. But when there are some calm periods, we should appreciate them and make them last longer. This is the time when useful thoughts appear; they become stronger and guide us in life.

Know thyself is the secret to happiness. For to know yourself is to discover the good that lies within.

If you're not starving is good enough in Canada. Did someone really put this in a newspaper? I want to read that. Than I can insult this person without having to go through your blog. I direct shot to the head just to wake him up. The way our Democracy is respected now, you soon will be starving. Compare the definition of our Democracy to what is happening in your Community and you'll see what I mean. You only exist on election day and for that day only.
A DEMOCRACY IS: a society in which all adults have easily accessible, meanful, and effective ways:
1. to participate in the decision-making processes of every ogranization that makes decisions or takes actions that effects them, and;
2. to hold other individuals, and those in these organizations who are responsible for making decisions and taking actions, fully accountable if their decision or action violates fundamental human rights, or are dishonest, unethical, unfair, secretive, inefficient, unrepresentative, unresponsive or irresponsible; so that all organizations in a society are citizen-owned, citizen-controlled, and citizen-driven, and all individuals and organizations are held accountable for wrong doings. A constitution that's set out the essential operating rules for the organization (or the country, the province/state, and municipality), including strong protection of fundamental human rights;an election system for choosing representatives that is fair and results in a governing body that represents citzen's votes accurately; a direct desision making process (initiative and referendum, for example)that allows citizens to initiate decisions and actions on issues that the representatives refuse to address;
strong requirements with no loopholes that apply to every organization (especially every government or government-funded institution, but also every corporate organization (especially large corporations --

What is the basic structure of a non-for-profit corporation? The two basic components for a non-profit corporation is a Board of Directors and a membership. Certain actions of the Board must be conirmed by the memebrship. (e.g. amendment of the letter of patent or By-Laws.)
In many corporations the memebrship will have the power to elect or re-elect Directors on a regular basis and remove existing Directors if nessessary, in order that the management of the corporation reflects the wish of the membership.

Who ever put that in the paper should also print this for a favour to the Community and find out if this really happens in your own Community, I know it doesn't happen here.
