For the life of me I just don't understand this Mayor? What does he not understand about a citizens revolt against him and his administration by way of a petition that is fast approaching 2,000 signatures of unhappy residents here in the Pass?
On Friday, I read over October's Municipal Newsletter and upon reading the Mayor's Corner I was aghast. I could not believe my eyes when reading the third paragraph dealing with his interpretation of the meeting between him, his council, administration and the executive of the Ratepayers Association. Being in the room that day as an observer on behalf of Alternative Media I was privy to everything that went on that day in that room, and my perspective of events is far different from how he portrayed it. His version was that it was basically a one-way street of him and his people 'correcting' the Ratepayers on their faulty and incorrect information, by providing them with their unvarnished truth. Not once did he concede there was any validity in the concerns raised by the Ratepayers and that life is in fact a two-way street. It was all top down, like a parent talking to an unruly child. They had ears but would not listen, being too busy dictating how things were going to be, and as such, how we should all get on board, stop being foolish children, and get with the program on the new realities for the Crowsnest Pass.
Delusional comes to mind when I think of this mayor and even some of his council. In this regard, today at four o'clock I heard the mayor on the news on the radio telling listeners that those signing the petition "do not know what they do because they have been fed misinformation" and as such "are being led down the garden path".
Also, today, I received the following comment on another post of mine here on this blog...
Just goes to show the difference between this petition and the previous one about trying to save the CLC where they couldn't get 1200 signatures and they had the full backing of the Herald.
For the councilors that read this, Basically anyone that cares at all about politics does not like the direction council is taking.I can not remember how many people voted in the last election, but I would guess that less than 2500.Which in turn would mean about 70% of the VOTERS are now not happy.Remember who you represent.
So much for the mayor's 'silent majority' he boasted about to the Ratepayers at that joint meeting, now wouldn't you say? With the collection of 2,000 signatures in a matter of a couple weeks and the above rationalization I believe even the most narcissistic, ego-maniac, would get the message.
Taking a firm stand is one thing but doing so under false pretenses is quite another. You, Mayor Decoux, do not have the support of the silent majority, as you falsely believe and have stated. In fact, I think you no longer have the support of even a minority, any more.
Please come to terms with this fact and do the right thing. By giving your head a shake, deal with the reality of the situation, get off your high horse, and most of all bow to the will of the people. They are speaking to you loud and clear and what they are saying is: "There is no longer a "we" who run things and a "they" who don't, or a "we" who don't run things and a "they" who do, but rather that all "we's" are "they's" and all "they's" are "we's". If you know what I mean? :-) If not, then let me spell it out for you in plain English. "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear their government, there is tyranny." You sir, have become a tyrant and the people will no longer stand for it, and as such are now in open revolt. So I say to you, "You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go".
... or, on the other hand, you can mend your foolish ways and learn to govern for the people as they wish you to, rather than continue to dictate to them with a closed mind as you have been doing. The choices are clear, they await your decision. As do we, the people you have failed, who sit in judgement of you today.
The very purpose of existence is to reconcile the glowing opinion we have of ourselves with the appalling things that other people think about us.
