... move over presidential debate...
I have it on good authority that the firefighters will be meeting tonight to vote on whether they walk or not. From what I understand it is almost a certainty they will.
Terry Vogt of CTV News will be notified immediately after the vote (as will I) followed by an interview with Jerry Newman acting spokesperson for the firefighters.
Stay tuned for an update later this evening...

John, no one should be surprised with this final action the parties involved. If they had read the article you posted re the new Chief up at Charly Lake AND the trailer articles from the Peace River paper, they should have seen this coming. After several set backs, the Mayor needed a hatchet man and found one. Only time will tell if this was the right move.
Since the first campaign meetings, the present Mayor's primary objective appeared to be the consolidation of the Fire Depts. He drew the line from A to B and didn't count on the numerous diversions encountered.
There is a string here: The departure of the previous CAO Tully; the arrival of Mr. Robins of Transitional Solutions --who happened to be the ex Fire Chief of Leduc; in the transition period, the mentoring and setting up of the appointment of the present CAO Mr. Thompson -- who is beholden to His Worship as shown in the Town Hall Meeting; the Mayor bragging at the Town Hall meeting that the Crowsnest Pass has the BEST local Fire Department in Southern Alberta; the departure of several previous Fire Chiefs -- likely assisted by the Mayor and his minions; and the axing of the BFD Fire Chief by Mr. Thompson show the dogged determination of this Mayor to achieve his objective at all costs.
To think that the Volunteer Firemen who have contributed their time and energy for the benefit of the Crowsnest Pass would roll over for the Mayor is ludicrous. It shows the disconnect that the Mayor has with his loyal subjects, the lack of his understanding of the Pass mentality even though he was raised here, and his lack of prioritizing the problems facing the Pass. To him, this appears to be about ME.
As the issue unfolds and the new Fire Department is implemented, hold onto your wallets. The cost of training new recruits and organizing the program will only add to the runaway spending by this Regime. Of course, the underlying objective may be the formation of a permanent Fire Department. Then watch your new tax bill.
So for those who voted for the name and not the substance, here you are. The rift created by this action will not go away. There is only one thing that will help it go away, and that person should.

All part of the PLAN. They know exactly what they are doing. When they hired the new fire chief they knew that this exact thing would happen. They know that there will be public outcry and that the fireman will all resign. He has a track record of destroy and then rebuild. But WHY does it have to be this way? Why are we treated as idiots? Is this the only way to bring about change?
I am so sick of this council, please get the petition going before any more damage is done. Why not give every fireman the petition and let them get some signatures. If there are 90 of them and they all get a few friends and relatives to sign, say maybe 15 each, would that not be enough names.
Well actually Steve does not have a history of "Destroy and Rebuild". He arrived at Charlie Lake in the middle of the mess - and then he rebuilt it. He's actually the best guy you can have at this moment.
