Get with the program, why dontcha?
It seems my readers haven't much to say, so my not posting today because I have to take my wife to the hospital in Lethbridge for a special test, won't be missed.
I can't believe with all the hard hitting (in some cases explosive stories) I wrote about last week on this blog people here have for the most part gone silent? Has apathy set in? Have people thrown their hands in the air and given up? Have you all quit?
We have many important issues coming up including Riversdale's Meet 'n Greet next week, and here it looks like nobody gives a sh**?
Sad! Truly sad!! And here you people cry about your leadership and how you are governed, don't promote or encourage standing up for your rights against the powers that be, complacently accept status quo, while continually re-electing the same old same old, old boys club types, only to go through the same cycle over and over again? Is this not the definition of insanity? Get a pair and stand up why dontcha?
Almost makes a guy want to throw in the towel and say WTF, let them wallow in their own muck, the stupid bast****. Think about this while I'm away today and then give yourselves a head shake.
When I get back I want to see the comment boxes filled. I want to see expressions of activism, community pride and spirit, comments filled with opinions, ideas, suggestions and/or just plain venting. Let us know you're alive out there, that we don't have to bring the undertaker to bury your sorry asses.
Hope my speaking plain English gets a rise our of some of you to get engaged. After all, this is your community too. It ain't going to straighten itself out by itself. It needs you to get involved, be a voice, share your thoughts, and then collectively we take action to make things better. Together we can do it, but we need to do it together as one.
So get with the program and make your voice heard so that we can turn it into part of a mighty roar heard all the way to Edmonton... if need be.
Be part of the solution rather than the problem. Wake up! Get involved!!
p.s. Sorry for being a rude, crude, dude here but I have to get the message out that things are not going to fix themselves. Sometimes people only listen when you shout in their ear.
You can’t wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.

Hey John, time to chill out for a while. Hockey is back, things ARE happening and the Riversdale show is soon. "What-ifing" gets a little tiring. Not to defend the regime, but lets wait and see how it unfolds. Besides slinging crap all the time just to do it -- what's the point? Not everyone sees the world as you do.
Safe trip to and from Lethbridge.
the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money - M Thatcher
Anon @10:14
:-) Fair comment. A trip to Lethbridge is probably what the doctor would order. Need to get away from here for awhile.

Don't know what socialism has to do with it here but as a retort and more truer to today's reality “Socialism for the Rich! Capitalism for the Rest”
Now I'm out of here!

John Don t get so upset we will wake up before the election everything will be fine.I belive your short are to tight. That happen to me once in a while.Keep up the GOOD work.
It is this current government that is asleep at the switch. All they are concerned about is infrastructure not the everyday Albertan. they are ramming the move of medevac from the Edmonton City Centre Airport to the airport in Leduc without any concern of what will happen to the patients coming from the rural areas of Alberta. All the whitewash of a 6 bed medi centre at the Leduc airport for patients that have already been through the triage process before transport is ludicrous. We already have wait times in the hospitals and now this government wants to create more wait times for people that have been transported by medevac for a specific reason. This current government is sleeping and giving false information in regards to the role S.T.A.R.S. plays in this medevac issue. They are not a shuttle service and if Albertans want to drink that kool-aid without checking out the facts than I feel sad for our society when people buy everything that comes out of this current governments P.R. machine as if it were gospel. Wake up Alberta like John says and smell the coffee before it is too late. The new AW139 helicopters are much heavier and bigger and where will they land as the hospital roofs are not built to handle the bigger helicopters. Please remember even if the new helicopters are able to fly in more adverse conditions than the earlier models there is no control tower or ILS(Instrument Landing systems) on hospitals. There John I hope that helps to wake people up. Because it is our Alberta and I agree that we need to wake up and get involved in our communities wherever we live and even communities we don't reside in is important to be aaware of what is happening to our neighbors and friends everywhere. I wish I could attend the Riversdale's Meet 'n Greet but I am working at that time. I believe it would be an enlightening experience. Here is a link to a column recently wrote regarding the change in roles that our current health minister wants to place on S.T.A.R.S air ambulance. http://www.pinchercreekvoice.com/2013/01/special-transportation-air-recovery.html Everyone we all belong to the same world community and what goes right or what goes wrong in any individual community eventually affects the whole world community, much like the butterfly effect. Alberta wake up and avoid drinking the kool-aid being offered by our elected representatives of all levels before getting the facts straight and then if satisfied take a drink. Have a safe trip John
Unlike the federal and provincial levels, municipalities do not have "Her Majesty's Government". The mayor position is not like a premier or president. It is just another councillor with an additional role something like the house speaker.
In municipalities there is just Council and the civil service ("administration").
On the Council side everything is supposed to be done through council and council committee meetings which are properly called and advertised and open to the public "except in very limited and specific circumstances" (Minister Griffiths' words) when they can go in camera.
On the administration side, everything done (and spent) must be authorised by bylaw, policy or specific resolution of Council.
Just one of many examples:
Did Council pass a resolution to stage a promotional meeting for a mining company at public expense?
If not, is there a policy or bylaw authorising the administration to do that?
If admin staged the meeting, is it proper or legal for admin to appoint one of their political bosses chairman?
If the mayor is chairman and council is attending, is it a "council or council committee" meeting? Then official minutes should be kept where councillors can record any pecuniary interests and it should be open to the public, not just invited guests and media.
These are the sort of questions the Inspector will be asking (and Ratepayers should be asking).
All right, here is my rant for the day. I am pissed that just about a week has gone by about the sale of the CC and we have no details. Why is it so difficult to let the people know what you have done. They voted 7-0, so they must have got a great deal.Lets here the details.
John
It is too bad you do not publish all comments. What makes the world work is opposing views, debate, foresight due to thoughtful consideration and the ability to look back in history to review past events. Not everything done in the past is wrong and not everyone is/was out to do the citizens of the CNP wrong.
Yelling, hollering and carrying on is not always the way to get what you solely think is the direction to proceed. The good citizens of the CNP are not always wrong but respectful dissenting views are always appreciated.
Hopefully your goal of providing alternative media and reporting is unbiased and willing to provide all views good or bad from your perspective.
The cc was transferred for a dollar and the CNP did not have the financial wherewithal to upgrade the facility to what was needed. The half a??ed attempts to keep the place operational cost way too much. If the CNP can get out in a relatively cheap manner they should take whatever can be had. Hopefully the cost to demo and remove the lead paint, asbestos, and other hazardous materials will not be excessive.

5 months have gone by since they advertised 270(?) RiverRun lots for tax auction, and then cancelled it because they wanted to apply to the courts to consolidate them into a single parcel.
I think the deadline to advertise them again in the Alberta Gazette in time for a March 31 auction is Friday, so the ad should be in the mail about now. If the courts went for their consolidation scheme they would be bragging about it. It should also appear on the Alberta Courts Judgements website. I don't see it there, but I don't know how long it takes for them to appear.
Anon 7:51 Are you a councilor trying to soften the blow when the details of the sale of the CC come out.All I want are the facts by our open and transparent council. Why should it take more than a week to let the citizens know what deal was made? Is the deal for a 40 room hotel or a 400 room hotel, when will it be built, how much did it sell for, what are the timelines, did you receive a deposit. Answers to these questions could lead to real estate investing decisions, but if the insiders have the information first then it is not really fair to the rest of us.

If you tried this, you could write a post on how it worked out.
CLC Sold
Pass Herald (buried in the back on p.14?)
"... we finally reached an agreement and we feel secure with it." Although there is no timeline as to when the development will begin or end...
This doesn't look good, does it John?
Don't hear the councillors bragging about the CLC sale do we?
John your assesment of the feeling that people are laying down and accepting whatever is dished out to them is right on. I cannot believe that they actually think that something good is happening. Ignorance is bliss and this pass is a very blissful place.
it is too bad you dont publish comments that critisize you john you would gain way more respect if you let people hear both sides of the feelings towards you and you may learn a little bit about yourself

Right now it looks like the Christmas Lull is being extended and will probably last well into the spring. I dont see much debate until we get into the fall by then we should have some answers. You might want to review that topic you posted just before Christmas there were some very accurate comments put forward. You know the saying "Strike while the irons are hot"---
This is no time to lay back and wait to see what happens in the fall. I cannot believe that most people have fizzled out. That is why we are in the mess that we are in. I must say positive comments would be nice BUT where would you find something positive to say about this administration. Nothing has materialized. They have spent most of our tax money to wreck the community and got strangers in at very high salaries to tell us what to do.
I have to coclude, that all these people who want to watch their hockey and just relax and stick their head in the sand are the ones who don"t care what happens as long as they are not bothered or the ones who have nothing to loose no matter what happens, and don"t care. This is why a community dies,This is no time to wait for FALL or we will all fall.
Anon @7:45 & Anon @8:23 (same person, I'm thinking? As were a couple comments that did not get posted)
My blog is no different than any other blog, there are certain rules one must follow. Such as no profanity and personal attacks. If that is all you have to offer then your comment does not get posted, especially if it is off topic as well. It's as simple as that.
In addition, this is my blog (although it is not about me but instead issues concerning our community coming from me). If all you want to do, because you do not like or agree with my positions on issues and cannot articulate a reasonable and intelligent argument to the contrary, is to attack me personally, then get your own blog and fire away, because I will not give you a forum for that purpose. Sorry!
Finally, let me say that I am not afraid of debate. I will debate anyone, and have. If all you have to offer are personal attacks then be a man and phone or email me, I'll be happy to talk to you one on one and see if we can't iron out our differences.

To anon8:23 You are one of the blissful,, who do not know that John in not the problem John has not caused all these problems. John is just trying to help you low information people realize what is going on. I can see that you cannot comprehend what the real problems are so go stick your head in the sand and don:t read Johns blogs and stay ignorant. There are a lot of people that respect John and I"m sure John would not miss your respect.
Just read our sad monetary situation. Sounds like we as a community are bankrupt, and heaven forbid we still owe for those damn nice peace officer trucks we had to borrow big money for, and golly gee, they are not paying for them like predicted. I do have a solution to at least lighten the taxpayers load a little bit. GET RID OF THE SPONGES IN ADMINISTRATION! not only will we save their enormous salaries, but then they cannot spend us into even bigger bankrupcy. Goodbye Thompson goodbye Headrick. Hopefully by October we'll be rid of the "mare" and council too.
