Ranchlands on Riversdale Resources and Annexation

Got a couple of interesting stories my readers will probably be interested in. As some of you may know Riversdale Resources met with the council of the M.D. of Ranchlands on February 5 before meeting with our council on February 6. You can read about this meeting by Sheena Read of the Nanton News by going here.

The purchase was made public before the two municipal districts were notified.
“In hindsight it was remiss of us. At that point, we were trying to see if there were any red flags,” said Dann, and the company was surprised by the media attention to the purchase, and the means by which the MDs Ranchland and Pincher Creek learned of the purchase, with a public announcement made by the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.
Comment: In other words, our mayor wasn't to neighbourly in his haste to grab the limelight and glory all for himself, now was he? I guess he didn't come by the name 'Pompous Bruce' for no good reason, now did he?

Burning bridges that you need to cross back on is never a good strategy, as the next story clearly shows.

In addition, the M.D. of Ranchlands council more or less told our council thanks but no thanks in doing a joint-session meeting presentation by Municipal Affairs with them on annexation. Again this a story by Sheena Read who is the Multi-Media Editor with the Nanton News. You can read this story here.

The presentations will ensure that there is equal opportunity for both municipalities to receive the same information from Municipal Affairs and the MGB, so that each municipality can make an informed decision on how they would like to proceed.
“I’m not sure if we need to go to any of it,” said Coun. Ron Davis...

Reeve Cam Gardner noted that he discussed Ranchland’s lower tax rate with representatives of Riversdale Resources during the council’s discussions with the group, and had told the company that taxes in Ranchland would be substantially lower than they would be if the Grassy Mountain area were to be annexed into the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.
Comment: With this in mind, do you my reader really think Riversdale would be interested in supporting the MCNP annexation plans where they would have to pay substantially higher taxes... year after year? I don't think so!

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive???

Ranchlands' tax rate is about half CNP's according to the spreadsheets linked under "Tax Rate Data" near the bottom of this page:
